We wanted to see the most famous mountain in Japan, Mt. Fuji, and we took a day trip to Mt Fuji from Tokyo. We booked a bus tour with Hato Bus based in Tokyo. UPDATES: I found that Hato Bus periodically offers a tour to Lake Kawagugi, but not always. They offer different tours time to time.
We boarded our tour bus early in the morning in Tokyo and headed to Mt. Fuji. It was about a two hour ride. There was free wifi on the bus. Because of snow and ice, we could only go to the Mt. Fuji visitor center by the base of the mountain. After we visited the visitor center, we stopped at this restaurant, Yamazumien, and had a wonderful lunch of hot tofu and seafood soup, tempura, salad, and veggies.
It was a cold morning and the food tasted really delicious. The flames under the soup kept it nice and hot. The salad was Japanese-sized.
While we ate, we looked out the picture window across Lake Kawaguchi where we were going to ride a ropeway and a tour boat.
Before we went out on the lake, we took a gondola to the top of Mt Kachi Kachi on the ropeway.
The view of Lake Kawaguchi from the top of the ropeway was just gorgeous.
There was a small shrine at the top of Mt Kachi Kachi: the Rabbit Shrine. Can you tell why I liked it???
Back at the bottom of the mountain we boarded a tour boat for a ride out onto Lake Kawaguchi. The view back toward Mt Kachi Kachi looked so picturesque.
After a few minutes on the boat, we rounded a point of land and could see Mt Fuji, enormous and peaceful, watching over us. I think that although there are many taller mountains in the world, there are none that are more beautiful and that give you such a feeling of happiness. Mt Fuji is known as the Shy Mountain because it is often covered with clouds and fog. We were lucky this day that Mt Fuji came out to see us. Arigato, Fujisan! It was a great day trip to Mt Fuji!
Such wonderful tails of bunny adventures!
Thank you! I will continue to write more fun travel stories!
