My favorite souvenirs and gifts from San Pedro de Atacama are the crafts and jewelry that we got in a local artisan shop – Atacama Craft. Atacama is famous for its desert and local artisan crafts. The area is abundant with copper, Lapis lazuli (blue stone), and other gemstones. Local crafts are frequently made out of copper and various stones.
Atacama Craft sells fine crafts, jewelry, and paintings from local artists. The artist who makes all the beautiful copper crafts and jewelry has his working station set up in the shop and visitors can see this jewelry being made real time.
Here is what we got:
A beautiful guanaco sculpture that has a copper mold and Lapis lazuli (blue stone), which is sitting in our china cabinet now:
One necklace made out of copper and Phosphosiderite (pink stone) and the other necklace made out of copper and Chrysocolla (dark green stone) that I choose for my grandmothers:
