Have you ever wanted to stand at the bottom of a waterfall and feel the cool refreshing water wash over you? Well, guess what! You can in sunny, beautiful Saint Lucia at Toraille Falls.
Toraille Falls, located about a mile (1600 meters) west of the village of Soufriere, is just what you’be been looking for. The water is cool, for the Caribbean, and the falls are over 45 feet (14 meters) high so Toraille Falls offers a great way to cool down on a hot day.
After getting through the entrance hut and paying the entrance fee, you can walk the short distance for a dip in the plunge pool and walk around the small botanical garden.
The stream feeding Toraille Falls flows down from the Grand Piton mountains so the water is nice and cool. It’s kind of a local challenge to see who is brave and strong enough to stand in the shower of cool water. Fortunately, my father grew up in a cold climate and also has lots of natural insulation so he didn’t seem to mind it at all.
A nature trail with cute bridges and walkways leads you through the lush greens and dazzling colours of this tropical paradise. There are steps into the catch basin at the bottom of the falls and lots of space for watching the brave take a shower. Changing rooms are nearby, as well as a seating area for picnics.
Don’t be afraid. Take the plunge!
