During our stay in the Atacama Desert, we went to many places such as the salt flat and lagoon in Sector Soncor. In Sector Soncor we visited the Los Flamencos National Reserve. It was created in 1990. The reserve allows the protection of bird nesting and breeding sites and opportunities to enjoy the natural attractions of a high altitude salt flat.

While walking along the trail we saw many little birds walking and feeding along the shore as well as lizards basking in the sun. Of course the highlight of the lagoon was the flamingos.

In the distance we had a beautiful view of a mountain. The walk along the salt flat and lagoon was very enjoyable and comfortable. If you ever plan to go, bring a hat and wear sunscreen. There is no shade along the path and it is quite a long walk if you plan to walk to the end, but the view is definitely worth it!!
