I recently started to learn how to animate and it’s a lot more work than I realized.
Since I didn’t know how animation works, I searched it up on the internet and watched the videos on how to animate. Most of the videos that I had watched use a program called adobe flash, which I do not have.
My first thought was, “Oh, I guess if I really want to do this, then maybe I’ll have to download the adobe flash”. But I then found a different video about “How to Animate in Krita”. I have Krita and it is the program that I use to draw and animate.
I was really excited that I can animate in a program that I use, so I tred it out immediately. The process of how to make a animation is the same in both programs, so either program will work and you probabily want to choose the program that you are more comfortable with.
How does animation work?
The type of animation I am creating is a 2D frame-by-frame animation. Frames are individual drawings that create a moving picture when put together. The “frame per second” setting in Krita is the number of frames to be played in the animation. A typical animation is about 24 frames per second. When I just started, I used less than 24 frames per second since my animations were pretty short and I didn’t add that much detail.
My first animation was a simple one: a bunny is sitting on top of a hill and another one is hopping up the hill to lay on the other’s shoulder. The background was a simple sunset with clouds moving across the screen.
That was when I realized how much work animation takes and it made me really appreciate animation so much more.
After my first animation, I decided to up my game a little and try for a little more detail. Here is my “cherry blossom bunny”.
How do you like my animation “cherry blossom bunny”?
