Horseback riding in the Atacama desert was one of my favorite activities near San Pedro de Atacama.
When we arrived at the cowboy’s ranch, the horses were ready and waiting for us.
After the cowboy helped us get up on the horses, we headed out toward to the outskirts of San Pedro de Atacama on dirt roads.
Different than the bustling downtown area of San Pedro de Atacama, the outskirts are quite, peaceful, and calm. Some hotels are located in the outskirts.
Along the way, I spotted some animals in the field and in somebody’s backyard.
Adobe walls are very common in San Pedro de Atacama. Many houses use the adobe walls to surround their yard. Plants grow happily along the walls.
Outside of San Pedro de Atacama, the view opened up and I saw endless sand dunes and mountain ranges in the horizon. There was a little stream where we stopped so that the horses could get a drink.
We circled back passing through the edge of the downtown area and finally arrived back at the cowboy’s ranch.
My horse’s name was Sweetbread. He was a chestnut color horse with blonde fur on his back. He was a very nice horse! I had a great time with him!
After I got off the horse, I just realized that the cowboy also had a llama! The llama peeked at us and posed for pictures!
Riding horses in the Atacama was a great way to see the outskirts and outside of San Pedro de Atacama. It was my favorite activity near San Pedro de Atacama!
