Hive is an interesting board game that I learned how to play recently.

Hive - A Game Crawling With Possibilities

Do you like chess but don’t have time to sit through one game? Do you like checkers but you want something different? Have you not tried either because you don’t have time to sit through one game?

Then try Hive!

Hive is kind of like chess and checkers with some tweaks. The game pieces are various insects (queen bee, beetles, grasshoppers, and ants) and spiders (spiders are not insects!). The goal of the game is to totally surround the opponent’s queen bee (with your and your opponent’s pieces). Each piece has its own style of movements and restrictions, like chess pieces.

The Game Pieces of Hive are Various Insects and Spiders

A few interesting restrictions making the game different and challenging are 1) all pieces entered the game have to connect to at least one other piece, 2) any new piece entering the game can only connect to your own color initially, and 3) a movement can’t happen if there is no space to “crawl”.

I just started to play Hive and already found various creative ways to move my pieces! It is a fun game that excersise’s your brain and it takes less than half an hour to complete one game.
