Happy 4th of July, Bunny Hopping Trails!
Who wrote the Star-Spangled Banner?
Francis Scott Key wrote the Star-Spangled Banner. It was originally not a song but was made into one by John Stafford Smith.
When was it written?
The Star-Spangled Banner was written in 1814 during the war of 1812.
Where was it written?
It was written in Baltimore Harbor, Maryland, after Key witnessed Fort McHenry being bombarded from a British ship eight miles away.
Why was it written?
U.S soldiers at Baltimore’s Fort McHenry raised a huge American flag to celebrate a crucial victory over British forces during the War of 1812. The sight of the “broad stripes and bright stars” still flying the next morning inspired Francis Scott Key to write a poem that later became the United States’ national anthem.
Check out my piano recordings of the Star-Spangled Banner. One is a simple arrangement and the other is Rachmaninoff’s arrangement. Please let me know what you think!
