We took a ferry boat ride from Catano to Old San Juan on our way back from the Puerto Rico Manatee Conservation Center in Bayamon (read my story as a one day manatee caretaker).
We arrived at the Catano terminal when the sun was setting. The sky had beautiful blue, purple, orange, and salmon colors. The ticket from Catano to Old San Juan was only 0.5 US dollars, very inexpensive.
The terminal was quite empty. Only our family and a few other groups of people were in the waiting area. We waited for a little while until the ferry boat sailed in and docked. Boarding was fast and smooth.
While we sailed out, the sun has just disappeared from the horizon and the moon was hanging in the middle of the sky. While some sunlight still brightened part of the sky, the moon, with a background of different shades of blue, yellow, and pink, looked like a scene in a fantasy story.
A ferry boat ride from Catano to Old San Juan is a wonderful budget sunset cruise in San Juan Bay. To catch the sunset, here is the sunset time in San Juan. I recommend to arrive 15 – 30 minutes before the sunset, if you want the whole length of the sunset cruise.
We arrived at the Catano terminal a little too late for the whole length of the sunset cruise. Still, we saw the magic of changing sky colors between sunset and nighttime. Upon arrival at Old San Juan terminal and after we got some ice cream from the ice cream shop next to the terminal, the sky has darkened. What a beautiful evening along the San Juan Bay!
