Daishoin Temple is the most famous Buddhism Temple on Miyajima. People usually first think about Itsukushima Shrine when thinking about Miyajima. Although Daishoin Temple is not as famous as Itsukushima Shrine, its importance on culture and religion in Japan has the same weight as Itsukushima Shrine.
Daishoin Temple is located at the base of Mount Misen. The temple is surrounded by countless trees. After crossing a bridge, we arrived at the gateway to the temple, Niomon Gate.
Passing through the gate, a long stone stairway leading to various buildings lied ahead of us.
The temple covers a large area surrounded by lots of green trees. There are multiple buildings and architectures. I also saw many statues and instruments here and there. Different buildings, statues, or instruments worship different Buddhism gods/goddess/spirits and give different blessings. I don’t know all the stories behind them, but every place in the temple feels calm, peaceful, and spiritual.
Daishoin Temple is a spiritual center on Mount Misen of Miyajima Island. It is definitely worth a stop when you visit Miyajima Island. You can find more information about Daishoin Temple on Miyajima’s office website.
