Atacama desert sunsets are among the most memorable moments of my trip to Chile.

Atacama Desert Sunset

The Atacama desert is a unique place. I felt the sky in the Atacama desert is very big. I was able to see very far. There were ranges of mountains in the horizon and stratified colors of sand and rock.

The sky is mostly clear in the Atacama desert due to the dryness of the air. We were lucky (or unlucky?) enough that the sky was covered by different degrees of clouds for a couple days, so we got to see different looks of the Atacama desert sunsets.

I saw the sunsets in the Atacama desert a few times during my stay. They were truly stunning! There were magical colors not only in the sky, but also on the surrounding sand dunes, rocks and mountain ranges. Every moment and every angle were surprisingly different. I felt the world was just a wide, open, quite, peaceful, and colorful place.

Here are some photos that I took. These photos are not even close to how beautiful the sunsets were when watching them in person!
