One of my favorite characters in Octopath Traveler is Cyrus the Scholar. He is a professor who teaches at a rich academy in Atlasdam. The reason I like him so much is because of his personality. For him, nothing comes before research and the pursuit of knowledge.
Cyrus tends to not notice or to misinterpret people’s feelings. For example, one of his students had a huge crush on him and he thought she wanted to talk to him because she was extremely devoted to her studies. As the story continues, so does the trend of his silly misinterpretation. The girl ends up deciding to put up with it, but I found his interactions with her hilarious.
His reason for going on his journey was to find a book that had been stolen from the Atlasdam library. But he doesn’t know where to start so he ends up going to find one of his colleagues to help him out.
Cyrus’s starting job is a scholar. His special in-battle skill is to observe which means that you can see one weakness of every enemy. His out of battle skill is scrutinize which allows you to find hidden items, discounts, and boosting other out of battle skills. However, his scrutinizing ability has a chance to fail and is based on his level, so you have to scrutinize carefully.
Overall, I really like Cyrus’ story and character. His personality is great and his interactions with all kinds of people are really hilarious to read. One thing I did notice about all of his chapters though is most of his boss dungeons are in sewers. What’s up with that?
